Women Masters Of Art
by Alejandra Carazo
Unveiling Women Masters offers a fascinating journey through the history of art, spotlighting women artists of exceptional talent who were celebrated in their time yet long overlooked in the public eye. From Sofonisba Anguissola—renowned 16th-century portraitist visited by Van Dyck in her 90s—to Clara Peeters, who pioneered the still life and subtly inserted her own image into her work, these artists shaped their eras in remarkable ways.
You’ll meet Artemisia Gentileschi, the first woman admitted to the Academy of Drawing Arts and a bold interpreter of Caravaggio’s style, as well as Impressionists Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot, who exhibited alongside Monet and Renoir. The story continues into the modern era with Camille Claudel, rival of Rodin; Louise Bourgeois with her giant chandeliers; and Eva Hesse, who pushed boundaries with unconventional materials.
Contemporary icons like Yayoi Kusama, Nikki de Saint Phalle, and Judy Chicago reveal how women continue to redefine the art world. This talk celebrates their long-overdue recognition and the vibrant, truthful narrative they bring to the history of art.
